The Roman Catholic Church in Poland is a curious symbiosis of faith, tradtion and politics.Deeply rooted in both the history and hearts of the people, the Church enjoys the support of the poor, the unsuccessful and those who cannot adjust to the uncertainties of the modern world. When the masses come together, the experience of faith finds its place in a staged and monster theater.
Here are photos of the Corpus Dei parade in Warsaw. Entwined are a religious and political demonstration with omnipresent national symbols including the flag, military uniforms, the president's home, national slogans and folkloric dress. We witness a panorama of Polish society; high-ranking clergymen, ordinary folk, veterans, housewives, important government members, and the military, thrown together in a caldron of Polish pride and fervor.
