Polish Cosmos is a cycle of eight exhibitions of contemporary photography, painting and graphics. Those exhibiting are either artists of Polish origin active in the Dutch art world or Dutch artists whose work has a Polish viewpoint. All exhibitions will be at Pools Huis during 2010-2011.

Maya Gordon was born in Chorzow, Poland. At the age of 10, she emigrated to Israel. Maya studied art at the Bezalel Academy in Jerusalem and later in The Netherlands at Atelier '63 in Haarlem and the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Since 1975, she lives and works in Amsterdam.

Maya's work is rooted in Polish culture while at the same time she feels influenced by the situation in Israel. Moving from one land to another, she experiences from two locations both a certain trust and at the same moment alienation. To feel at home is not connected to an existing place. This kind of nostalgia is experienced by every immigrant.

The difference between 'home' and 'at home' is an important element in Maya's work
