An arduous walk in the blazing sun brought us to the foot of the Great Pyramid of Cheops. It was no longer a picture from a fairy tale. It was an ugly, ribbed mountain of stone. Each one of its colossal sides presented itself as broad flight of stairs rising up step by step and growing narrower until it came to a point far above.
